From model of 1985 the version of the cars equipped with the automatic Ford A 4 LD four-speed transmission is entered. This transmission is equipped with the coupling blocking hydrokinetic transfer. Its three first transfers correspond to transfers of the three-stage automatic Ford C transmission 3, and the 4th transfer is nadperedachy (the increasing speed has transfer number).

CABLE OF THE KICK-DOWN MECHANISM

Originally in automatic Ford A 4 LD transmissions the control of the kick-down mechanism was mechanical (see rice. Adjustment of a cable of the kick-down mechanism in the 1st version of execution).

Since May, 1986 (a code of date of production of "GJ") the kick-down mechanism is run by the electromagnetic valve which provides more exact reduction of transfers.

DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS C 3 AND A 4 LD

In the four-speed transmission A 4 LD after inclusion of the 3rd and 4th transfers there comes blocking of hydrokinetic transfer thanks to what heating of oil in the transmission, and also fuel consumption by the engine decreases. The fourth transfer has the increasing transfer number which is the reason that the speed of the engine is 25% less, than on the 3rd (direct) transfer at the same speed of the movement.

Pressing an accelerator pedal against the stop (kick-down) causes automatic switching of transfer to the 3rd. It allows to achieve big accelerations and the maximum speed of the movement.
