3.1.4. Changes in a car design from 1987 to 1989.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This section concerns only the changes entered into designs of the Ford Sierra cars with four-cylinder petrol engines from model 1987 to model of 1989.

Technical characteristics, and also the description of adjustments and repair which are not subject to changes are in the previous sections.

MODEL 1987

In the second half of 1986 two special options were entered: Laser and Laser Touring differing in equipment. In both options OHC 1,6 or 1,8 engines of dm3 and four-speed transmissions are used.

In January, 1987 production of the second generation of the Ford Sierra cars is begun. In a body of the Sierra cars of fashion. 87 new stylization is entered before. The cowl falls to the level of a front bumper and covers complex headlights with big glasses of forward indexes of turns. Also the windshield surface is increased, improving, thus, the field of the review of the driver.

In the doorway of models of the second generation side strengthening is entered.
Model scale is expanded, adding to two-volume bodies (five-door Berlin, five-door komb and three-door a compartment) option with a three-volume four-door (sedan) body with a separate luggage carrier.

Sierra cars of fashion. 87 are offered with the ONS petrol engines: 1,6 dm3 (55 kW), 1,8 dm3 (66 kW), 2,0 dm3 carburetor (77 kW) and 2,0 dm3 with fuel injection (85 kW).

MODEL 1988

In January, 1988 the Sierra GT version, with limited number of copies, with the 77 kW engine of 2,0 dm3 is entered at 5200 rpm.

Characteristic features of this version were: the opened hatch, tinted windows, an external rear-view mirror it is painted under color of a body, and also the side strengthenings falling to a bottom of doors.

In May, 1988 instead of the ONS 1,8 engine of dm3 the CVH 1,8 engine of the 66 kW dm3 at 5250 rpm is installed.

The characteristic features of this engine distinguishing it from ONS engines are: the ignition distributor installed horizontally on the forward end of a cam-shaft and also the karbyurakarbyurator located on the right side of the engine (depending on the direction of the movement).

MODEL 1989


In December, 1988 the new five-step mechanical MT 75 transmission is installed. It has a case from light alloy instead of pig-iron, and its design was significantly changed in comparison with earlier installed transmission.

In April, 1989 the new DOHC 2,0 engine of dm3 with two cam-shafts in a head of the block of cylinders with the name "TWIN-CAM" is entered.

In this engine unleaded gasoline can be used as ethylated (in the version without catalyst of exhaust gases), and. With the carburetor it develops the power of 66 kW, and when using injection of Ford Motorcraft EFI fuel – the power of 92 kW.
