GENERAL INFORMATION

Cooling fan coupling

1 – contact brush,
2 – contact ring,
3 – driving belt,
4 – coil,
5 – fan blades,
6 – bolt and nut of fastening of blades of the fan,
7 – central nut,
8 – axis,
9 – bearing,
10 – adjusting bolt,
11 – air gap,
12 – grounding,
13 – bearings,
14 – gas distribution mechanism drive cover

The drive of the fan of cooling consists of two important parts – electromagnetic and frictional couplings. The electromagnetic coupling is put in action by a maple belt and rotates on an axis which leans on two ball bearings installed in inflow of a cover of the drive of the mechanism of gas distribution. On the forward end of this axis the ball bearing on which the frictional coupling with fan blades freely rotates is installed. Between electromagnetic and frictional couplings there is an air gap if temperature of the engine does not exceed 71 °C. When temperature of cooling liquid rises above 85 °C, the sensor installed on a radiator gives tension on a coal contact brush and, through a contact ring, on the electromagnetic coil under the influence of magnetic field, the frictional coupling is attracted to electromagnetic, and blades of the fan begin to rotate with a speed of rotation of a pulley. At reduction of temperature of cooling liquid, the electromagnet is disconnected, the gap is restored and blades of the fan are slowed down, rotating only under the influence of a stream of air and inertia.

For normal operation of the coupling the tension of a belt of the drive has to be normal, the electric sensor is serviceable, the coal brush is not worn-out, and a contact ring pure. A gap between the fan and the plug of the coupling – 0,5 mm on the cold engine. Before check of a gap it is necessary to remove fan blades, having turned off fastening nuts. Measurements are performed by the probe in several points on a circle. For carrying out adjustment it is necessary to weaken lock-nuts of adjusting bolts and, rotating them, to establish the required gap.

Removal and installation of the coupling of the fan

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To merge cooling liquid from system.
2. To disconnect branch pipes from a radiator and to remove a radiator.
3. To take off a driving belt of the fan.
4. To record a pulley and to unscrew the central nut of an axis of the fan.
5. Back support of the engine.
6. Easy blows of a kiyanka to a pulley and the coupling to remove the electromagnetic coupling.
7. To uncover the gas distribution mechanism drive, to remove a lock spring ring and to take a fan axis with bearings.
8. The coupling in the sequence of the return to removal is installed.
